If you allow yourself to correct errors during practice, you are training completely the wrong habit. The official Bombay HC exam software does not allow backspace. Every session on this platform enforces this condition. After 2–3 weeks of strict backspace-disabled practice, your fingers will naturally slow down just enough before an uncertain key to prevent the error from happening — which is exactly the skill the exam is testing.

Many candidates assume that because Hindi Inscript and Marathi Inscript share the same base layout, they're interchangeable. They're not. Marathi has unique characters like ळ (retroflex lateral), ऑ, and specific anusvara usage that Hindi doesn't use the same way. Marathi formal passages also use "Shuddha Marathi" — a purer grammatical form that differs from conversational Marathi. Treat your Marathi and English preparation as two separate tracks.

The biggest speed killer in the Bombay HC typing test isn't slow fingers — it's unfamiliar words. Words like "interlocutory," "respondent," "petitioner's counsel," "contempt," and "mandamus" appear in passages regularly. When you encounter an unfamiliar word mid-test, your eyes pause, your typing rhythm breaks, and errors follow. Read one full-length judgment summary each day during your preparation period. Familiarity with legal language will directly show up in your speed.

Exam-day conditions — an unfamiliar keyboard, a noisy hall, the pressure of knowing this is the real test — will typically drop your speed by 4–6 WPM. If you're consistently hitting the minimum cutoff in practice, you're preparing to fail on exam day. Set your practice target 5 WPM above the cutoff for each language. Hitting 45 WPM English and 35 WPM Marathi in practice means you'll cross 40/30 comfortably under pressure.

Net WPM = (Total Words Typed − Error Words × 2) ÷ Minutes. At 40 WPM over 10 minutes, you type approximately 400 words. A 2% error rate means just 8 error words before your attempt is in jeopardy. That's fewer than one error per minute on average. This forces a discipline that most typing tests don't require. Accuracy-first, speed-second is the only viable strategy for this exam.

Unlike English QWERTY which most people already know, the Marathi Inscript layout must be actively learned. Print a Marathi Inscript keyboard chart and keep it at your desk for the first two weeks — refer to it only when truly stuck, never during timed practice. After two weeks, tape it face-down. Your fingers will have started to build the layout from memory. This approach is far more effective than looking at the keyboard during practice.

A common mistake is practicing English until you're comfortable, then switching all focus to Marathi — only to find your English speed has regressed. The brain switches between keyboard layouts better with regular alternation. A good daily schedule: one 10-minute English session in the morning, one 10-minute Marathi session in the evening. Both improve together, and the contrast between the two layouts actually helps each language's accuracy.

On the day of the actual Bombay HC typing test, do not attempt a full practice session right before — it tires your fingers and increases tension. Instead, do a gentle 2-minute warmup at low speed to activate muscle memory, then rest. Arrive at the centre early, take 5 deep breaths before sitting at the terminal, and read the passage for 30 seconds before the timer starts (if permitted). Composure is a skill you train alongside speed.
